The Center
for Shared Excellence (CSE) is the capacity-building, research and technical
assistance division of Michigan Neighborhood Partnership (MNP). In September
2006 MNP implemented CSE through a grant from the U. S. Department of
Human Services.
Our overall
objective is to improve the operations of faith-and community-based organizations
(FCBOs) through an innovative approach of peer-to-peer technical assistance.
CSE's first targeted group of organizations are those FCBO's desiring
to increase services to high-risk youth* in the Metropolitan Detroit
area.
CSE recognizes
that small grassroots organizations cannot afford to hire full-time expertise
in every domain. CSE retains the high-capacity staff employed by successful
organizations as Expert Practitioners to help others learn new skills
and adopt best practices. The Center for Shared Excellence coordinates
this peer-to-peer learning through daylong group training sessions and
on site one to one visits by Expert Practitioners. We believe that the
instruction provided will enable small FCBOs to increase their capacity
in multiple domains (e.g. volunteer recruitment and retention, sound
fiscal management and best practice program models for high risk youth).
CSE currently
has a client base of sixty (60) faith and community based organizations.
During the next year we will continue to refine our mutual assistance
model and seek to expand our client services. CSE will also launch demonstration
projects, host community forums, training's, seminars and other events
designed to address the critical issues impacting our communities.
