Detroit 50K  (a city-wide financial education demonstration project)

Recognizing the magnitude of the need for expanded financial literacy education, training and personal coaching to take place at a neighborhood based level; Michigan Neighborhood Partnership is building a Detroit area collaborative of faith, community-based organizations, financial institutions, and local and national financial literacy organizations dedicated to this cause. In January 2010, this collaborative campaign, known as Detroit 50K, will embark upon an outreach to provide financial literacy education, training and supportive services to 50,000 Detroit area families over the next three years.  The collaboration includes entities such as Operation HOPE, United Way of Southeastern Michigan, Comerica, Charter One Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank, community and faith-based organizations and several local churches/houses of worship. Detroit 50 K builds upon three core values that impact the quality of personal and community life: Education, Family and Spiritual/Community Connections. MNP firmly believes that it is the adoption of these core values that will cause families to be resilient in the midst of the economic storm that they are facing. The goal of Detroit 50K is to assist participating families in developing and implementing an economic recovery plan that encompasses debt resolution, savings and asset building.
